OK, so what the heck’s The Social Silo. Well, the long answer is that we’re big into the social scene (Paris Hilton is our BFF). OK, not THAT social scene, but social media and online networking through Facebook and Twitter and such. But our roots are in rural America, in farming and agriculture, thus the clever use of the word “silo.”
We want to be a community blog about the rural world. About manure. About county fair prize-winning pie recipes. Just not in the same sentence. We want to foster communication between farmers and nonfarmers, to share different perspectives, to make us all think and grow a little. We want to ask questions, and listen to your answers. Because that’s the only way we learn, too. And we really want to have some fun, but don’t tell the boss.
We’re starting out with posts from farm journalists (yeah, that’s right, the media) because that’s who we are and what we do. We see and hear a lot of information that never makes it into our stories. We take pictures that never get printed. We meet great people, visit great places, and we want to share that world with the universe.
Oh, the short answer? The Social Silo is the new “social face” of the newspaper Farm and Dairy.
