“Their passion behind it was amazing,” said Azar during a phone interview with The Social Silo.
Growing up in The Mississippi Delta gave Azar a firsthand experience when it comes to farms and agriculture. “The Delta is a huge agricultural area and when they asked me to write the song, I tapped into my past. It was a lifetime of living.”Many of Azar’s childhood friends were children of farmers so he drew from those relationships for inspiration. “I wanted to make the farmer a super hero.” After writing the song in 15 minutes, it was recorded and first performed at Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D., for South Dakota’s FFA Convention April 15, 2012. At the convention, hard copies of the song were sold for $5, and all of the proceeds were donated to the FFA. “It was a gift for me to do it,” said Azar. “You never really know the song before you perform it live. It comes alive when you do that and the response was great.” A music video was produced by KIKN Country 100.5 fm, a South Dakota country music radio station. The video features photos donated by FFA members and their families and other listeners of KIKN Country. Azar hopes to take the idea the additional states to benefit other FFA programs.
