Our staff had a tough choice to make when it came to choosing the grand-prize winner of our Just Say Cheese photo contest, but in the end, it was Shannah Yoder for the win.

Who could resist little Trevor greeting the cows? We couldn’t — that’s for sure.

To be certain, all of our finalists’ photos had merit — going back to our first weekly winner, Martha Anderson, who had a stare-down with a goat standing on a tree stump.

Then we had Jason Harris, who snapped an irresistible photo of his daughter, Maggie, sharing fresh-picked raspberries with the cows on her grandpa’s farm.

Our third weekly winner, Bessie Zinz, captured a beautiful photo of her cousin, Danny, taking his cow to milk.

All of our weekly winners will receive a $25 Baskin Robbins gift certificate, four free issues of Farm and Dairy and a Farm and Dairy T-shirt and mug.

Yoder will also receive a three-gallon tub of Penn State Creamery ice cream in the flavor of her choice.

Thanks again to all who participated in the contest. So many of the photos captured our attention, and we had some difficult choices to make. But we also had a lot of fun doing it, and we hope you did, too.

The Social Silo is the new “social face” of the newspaper Farm and Dairy. We want to be a community blog about the rural world. About manure. About county fair prize-winning pie recipes. Just not in the same sentence. We want to foster communication between farmers and nonfarmers, to share different perspectives, to make us all think and grow a little. We want to ask questions, and listen to your answers.
