Wasn’t this weekend — especially Sunday — something else? At my home in Wooster, Ohio, the high temperature was around 80 degrees. Other parts of our circulation area saw even higher.

After such a lousy winter — snow, ice and rain — we were in for a true break and did we ever get one.

I managed to get some edging done in my flowerbeds, and along my sidewalk where the grass had overgrown. And I shredded and mulched some old leaves and applied some Moss-B-Gone to the wet areas of my lawn. I also cleaned my flowerbed trellis and took measurements for some landscape timbers I hope to install around my patio. And I sanded down the windowsill in my dining room, which I intend to restain and varnish.

Would take more

In truth, I could use a month’s worth of days like we just had and I suppose eventually they will come.

It is amazing how a warm, sunny day can awaken the life in a person. I saw so many people over the weekend working outdoors, doing this or that. The local hardware store was abuzz with people looking for outdoor grills, patio decorations and lawn and garden supplies. And the number of people just out for a walk with their kids or their dog — on a day when a T-shirt and jeans were enough — how encouraging.

Spring is a very welcome season, and I’m sure the best is yet to come. But I love the feeling the first few days bring — the sights and smells and most definitely how it feels.

A good taste

There’s a good chance of rain today in Ohio and western Pa. but we have at least a taste of what’s to come.

Were you able to use the past weekend for anything special? Maybe some seasonal work around your own yard or farm, or a scenic walk to somewhere peaceful? Wouldn’t it be nice if it stayed around for a while?
